Alex,
Thanks for your excellent article on the Snake River in the New York Times. You have captured the spirit of the river and the northern Canadian wilds very well - and helped draw attention to the urgent need to protect this remarkable landscape. It sounds like you had fabulous trip - I recall paddling on the Snake for days through the thick smoke of a big forest fire ...it does create an eerie sense of uncertainty with its own beauty, but is at the heart of what it means to be in untrammeled wilderness. Best regards, Juri Peepre.

Dear Juri

I bought your book "Wild River's of the Peel Watershed and I love it! The best guidebook I know. I wanted to ask you for more detailed information and pictures about the Hart River. It would be great if you send me an e-mail

Best regards,

Thanks for the great comments and support! We certainly hope this book prompts more people to experience the beauty of the Peel watershed’s wild rivers. With more awareness of this part of the northern boreal landscape, perhaps readers will consider engaging in the pressing conservation issues of the region - proposed uranium mining, and potential new roads into the heart of the Three Rivers wilderness, to name a couple of imminent threats. For those who paddle these magical rivers or hike in the untrammeled mountains, you may find your perception of the value of Canada's northern wilderness forever altered!

I just returned from paddling the Snake River and having Juri and Sarah's book was hugely helpful. It contained just the right amount of information, had great tips about trip planning/logistics, specific river features, hiking, campsites, wildlife, geological features, environmental awareness etc etc - everything you need to know, plus interesting sidestories that bring the river alive more. I would highly recommend it to anyone. It's also getting us excited about paddling some of the other rivers in the book!
